    • The Tobacco Support Group Meets every Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the LePage Conference Center at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, 99 Campus Avenue, Lewiston. Call Healthy Androscoggin at 795-5990 to confirm location.

    • Help to Quit , Healthy Androscoggin’s smoking cessation website
    • American Cancer Society , help in quitting
    • Freedom From Smoking , an online, free smoking cessation program from the American Lung Association
    • National Partnership for Smoke Free Families, a national program working to discover the best ways for pregnant women to quit smoking. Information for smokers, researchers, friends and family and policy makers.
    • Nicotine Anonymous, offers support for people who want to “gain freedom from nicotine.” Pamphlets in six (6) languages.
    • Office of the Surgeon General, information on ways to quit smoking, tobacco facts and cessation news. Some documents available in Spanish.
    • Quit 4 Life, a Canadian site available in English and French that tells the story of four young people who decide to quit smoking. Good for young audiences.
    • Quit.net, Quit all together, upon registration, you get peer-to-peer support, quitting tools, quit tips, anniversary emails and up-to-date information. Without registering, you can obtain a guide to help you quit, a calendar to follow through the process, a directory of cessation programs and daily tobacco news.
    • Quit Now , a National Institute of Health funded study to aid in quitting smokeless tobacco
    • Quit Smoking: Smokeless Tobacco Cessation Program , a Smokeless Tobacco Cessation Program from George Mason University.
    • Spit Tobacco , the section of the site of the American Academy of Otolaryngology (Head and Neck Surgery) that includes information on Spit Tobacco, including what it is, what’s in it, the effects of using it and tips to quit spit tobacco.
    • Try to stop.org, offers a personalized, interactive “quit wizard” to serve as a guide during the quitting process, information programs in your community that can help you quit, downloadable brochures, success stories, expert advice, e-cards and links to other web-based quit tools.

    • American Heart Association , information about heart attack/stroke warning signs and prevention
    • Androscoggin Valley Council of Government , information about walking and bike tours
    • Bicycle Coalition of Maine , information about safety, education and access for biking
    • Healthy Maine Walks Registry , information about finding and using walking trails
    • Kids Walk to School, a national program that encourages children to increase the physical activity by walking to and from school.
    • Verb, a national program with an interactive website geared at tweens (9-13 year olds) encouraging them to choose their “verb,” or to engage in whatever form of physical activity they find fun, including play!
    • Greater LA Triple Crown, a series of three local 5k races open to both runners and walkers in June, July and August every year. These are three great community events where anyone who wants to get out for some exercise or just volunteer is encouraged and welcome to attend.
    • Androscoggin Land Trust, a local non-profit, and Healthy Androscoggin partner organization, that seeks to protect natural lands and thus provides great places to recreate.
    • LA Trails, a non-profit dedicated to expanding and improving trails in Lewiston and Auburn. This is a great place to find a good walk or hike.
    • Maine in Motion, Governor John Baldacci’s initiative to increase Mainers’ physical activity.
    • Kidnetic, a fun website for kids about exercising and nutrition.
      This site also provides some fun, healthy recipes kids can make with an adult.
    • WinterKids, a great program that gets kids active in the winter by working closely with schools. This is a great site for school administrators, teachers and parents.
