Annie Derthick, PhD
she/her/hers
Annie has been living in Lewiston, ME since 2018. She moved here from Alaska, where she lived for 11 years while working as a community organizer and later clinical psychologist. She came to Maine to be “closer” to family in Georgia, where she was born and raised. Annie is the Director of Behavioral Science at the Central Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency. In this role, she educates family medicine residents and counseling students about working with patients who experience mental illness and substance use disorders as well as other important topics related to providing primary care in a diverse community such as cross-cultural communication, implicit bias, health equity, medical ethics, advocacy, and social medicine. Annie also oversees the Behavioral Health Department in the CMMC FMR primary care clinic and works with her staff to develop innovative services that are responsive to the needs of the community.
Annie loves to talk about food, books, and dogs and will do so with anyone, anytime. She collects cookbooks from all over the world and will gladly accept your donations (much to her partner’s dismay). Annie is also enjoying continuing to learn about Maine, so she would love to hear what you love most about the state.
