Healthy Androscoggin, a division of Central Maine Community Health, seeks experienced candidates for a full-time Nutrition Educator position.   

This position is federally funded until September 30, 2030, as part of the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) through the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The RHTP supports rural population health care innovations and new access points to promote preventative health and address root causes of disease. In Maine, the nutrition education program component of the state’s RHTP is called Nourish ME. Nourish ME will promote population health through evidence-based nutrition education and public health interventions for all Mainers and the health care organizations that serve them.  

The Nourish ME Nutrition Educator position will support the facilitation of a sustainable nutrition education infrastructure for chronic disease prevention and management in Androscoggin County. The role will also implement evidence-based Food Is Medicine strategies that complement and integrate with Nourish ME. This position focuses on building community partnerships, strengthening food access infrastructure, providing nutrition education, and embedding Food Is Medicine approaches within clinical and community systems. The candidate will work independently and in a team, be well-organized, and possess a strong attention to detail. This position requires detailed records for reporting and evaluation. Frequent travel to sites throughout the local service area (Androscoggin County) and occasional overnight travel to statewide trainings (1-2 per year) is required. 

 DUTIES  

  • Deliver evidence-based nutrition education curricula aligned with Nourish ME goals related to chronic disease prevention and management.  

  • Implement evidence-based Food Is Medicine public health approaches (e.g. Medically tailored groceries, Food pharmacies/pantries, fruit and vegetable prescription/FVRx, Farmers Market vouchers, Gleaning, Clinical referrals, and School-based health strategies) aligned with Nourish ME goals related to chronic disease prevention and management.  

  • Engage with new and existing partnerships with community and clinical sites for implementation of sustainable Food Is Medicine strategies.  

  • Engage in outreach efforts to increase awareness of and participation in Nourish ME.  

  • Coordinate with healthcare organization partners (e.g. hospitals, primary care practices, and community clinics) to support referral and enrollment into Nourish ME nutrition education programs.  

  • Ensure program delivery maintains fidelity to evidence-based models while adapting appropriately to local community needs.  

  • Support the development of sustainable nutrition education infrastructure across community and healthcare settings.  

  • Participate in training and meetings, both in-person and online. 

  • Ensure program implementation follows guidance as set by the University of New England.  

  • Complete reporting and evaluation processes as set by CMS, Maine DHHS, and UNE.  

 JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Ability to professionally and effectively communicate both orally and in writing.  Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, and general public in a courteous and tactful manner.  

  • Experience as Registered Dietitians, Public Health and Nutrition professionals preferred. 

  • Experience delivering evidence-based nutrition education programs across the lifespan is preferable.  

  • Experience with community centered public health interventions desired. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health, exercise science, health education or behavioral sciences; or comparable experience required.  

  • Experience developing and maintaining diverse community partnerships required. 

  • Experience using Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.  

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.  

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing program needs.  

  • Ability to travel as needed.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is performed in an office or hybrid remote setting with regular travel to community and partner sites, schools, and events. Ability to use a computer for extended periods required.
