Healthy Androscoggin, a division of Central Maine Community Health, seeks experienced candidates for a full-time Director position. 

The Director provides strategic and operational leadership for CMCH’s Healthy Androscoggin division. Reporting to the CEO, the Director sets program direction, leads the division’s management team, oversees the grant portfolio and program budgets in partnership with the Finance Manager, and serves as the primary public face of Healthy Androscoggin across the region and statewide. The Director convenes community partners to address complex health issues through policy, systems, and environmental change, and ensures programming is evidence-based, culturally competent, and responsive to community-identified needs. Position dependent on continued funding. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Strategic and Program Leadership

  • Set the strategic direction and annual work plans for the Healthy Androscoggin division in alignment with CMCH’s mission and the priorities set by the CEO and Board. 

  • Convene stakeholder organizations and community members to address complex health issues through policy, systems, and environmental change. 

  • Integrate evidence-based public health strategies into community-wide programming, ensuring it is culturally competent and responsive to community-identified needs. 

  • Stay current on public health trends, best practices, and data and technology tools, and apply them to program planning and evaluation. 

Community Engagement and Partnerships

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for Healthy Androscoggin in collaboration with CMCH leadership. 

  • Maintain positive working relationships with local agencies, municipal governments, schools, businesses, media, and other community partners. 

  • Network at the state and local levels to integrate a public health approach into community-wide systems. 

  • Convene the Healthy Androscoggin Advisory Committee 

  • Educate legislative and community contacts on public health best practices. 

Community Health Assessment and Improvement

  • Coordinate Community Health Needs Assessments and Community Health Improvement Plans for the region in partnership with regional health system partners and community stakeholders. 

  • Represent Prime Healthcare Foundation/Central Maine Healthcare in the Maine Shared Community Health Needs Assessment collaborative. 

  • Review qualitative and quantitative data to assess community health needs and identify resources and partnerships to address them. 

Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Direct the day-to-day operations of Healthy Androscoggin and supervise the management team, overseeing assistant managers, coordinators, and programmatic staff through them. 

  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations in line with organizational standards. 

  • Cultivate an engaged, supported, and mission-aligned team culture, and support staff retention and professional development. 

Grant Development and Fiscal Oversight

  • Lead grant writing and proposal efforts for the division, and identify and secure grants, sub-contracts, and donations in coordination with the CEO. 

  • Oversee Healthy Androscoggin program budgets in partnership with the Finance Manager, ensuring compliant use of grant funds and timely funder reporting. 

  • Oversee and monitor consultants and sub-contracts for the division. 

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO, Finance Manager, and division leadership to support organizational planning and shared goals and maintain confidentiality at all times. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Master’s degree in public health, public administration, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred; bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience considered. 

  • Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public health, community health, or nonprofit management. 

  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision, project management, and interagency collaboration. 

  • Experience in budgeting, grant writing, and funder relations; public relations or community organizing experience preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Strong knowledge of public health principles and evidence-based prevention and health promotion strategies. 

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing. 

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and motivate a team and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. 

  • Solid knowledge of data collection and program evaluation, with comfort using data to inform planning and reporting. 

  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and relationship-building skills with diverse groups and partners. 

  • Ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization and direct work in a fluid operational environment. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

This position is performed in an office or hybrid remote setting with regular travel to community and partner sites, schools, and events, including occasional evenings or weekends; reliable transportation is required. Ability to use a computer for extended periods required. Occasionally lifts materials up to 25 pounds.
